Introduction

This five-day Safety Risk Management course equips participants with a comprehensive understanding of identifying, analyzing, and controlling safety risks within the workplace. • Recognizing Common Workplace Hazards: Identifying specific hazards associated with different work environments like slips/trips/falls, electrical hazards, and ergonomic risks.
• Understanding Legal Requirements for Hazard Identification: Exploring relevant regulations and standards that mandate hazard identification and risk assessment.

Day 3: Risk Assessment & Analysis

• Conducting Risk Assessments: Learning to assess the likelihood and severity of potential safety incidents using various risk assessment tools and matrices.
• Qualitative Risk Assessment Methods: Utilizing techniques like What-If/Checklist analysis and risk matrices to evaluate risk levels.
• Quantitative Risk Assessment Methods (Optional): Introduction to quantitative risk assessment techniques for advanced participants (may require additional prerequisites).

Day 4: Risk Control Strategies and the Hierarchy of Controls

• The Hierarchy of Controls: Understanding the hierarchy of controls (elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, PPE) and prioritizing the most effective methods.
• Developing and Implementing Control Measures: Learning to implement effective control measures to mitigate identified safety risks based on the hierarchy of controls.
• Selecting Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Understanding the role of PPE in risk management and choosing the right PPE for specific hazards.

Day 5: Safety Risk Management Program Development & Maintenance

• Building a Safety Risk Management Program: Learning the key elements of a successful safety risk management program and how to implement it within an organization.
• Communication and Training for Safety Risk Management: Effectively communicating safety risks and controls to all employees and ensuring they are properly trained.
• Continuous Improvement and Monitoring: Developing a process for monitoring the effectiveness of the safety risk management program and implementing continuous improvement practices.

Methodology

Our courses are highly interactive, typically taking a case study approach that we have found to be an effective method of fostering discussions and transferring knowledge. Participants will learn by active participation during the program through the use of individual exercises, questionnaires, team exercises, training videos and discussions of “real life” issues in their organizations.
